The option between saving a web page, complete vs web page, HTML in Firefox Developer Edition x64 version 40.0a2 seems to have disappeared. Your only choice seems to be to save a web page, HTML or "All Files". I was able to do it before but it seemed to have stopped working for me as of June 5, 2015, possibly after an update.

Use these to save your stuff. Then refresh.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.

Note: One of your pictures did not make it. Please try again.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.

Still working for me.

Does it help if you create a new Integer pref on the about:config page?

  • browser.download.save_converter_index = 0

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thanks for the responses. Safe mode actually made it worse. I couldn't even save at that point. Using Ctrl+S on the keyboard or clicking the menu and Save Page resulted in no response in safe mode.

Turning off hardware acceleration didn't help either.

The Integer pref, browser.download.save_converter_index already existed with that same value in my about:config page.

I was able to fix it by using the Refresh Firefox option but obviously, that means losing all my settings and history.

If it helps, I can't install (no response to the Add button) or change to the default theme. It seems to be stuck in the Developer Edition theme but I'll post a separate question if I really want my browser menu area to look a little different.

Again, thanks!

the resetting of Firefox did not resolve this issue. I will have to use Firefox basic addition until this has been resolved.

I offer my gratitude to Mozilla for the development addition of Firefox because it resolved issues with Firefox basic. Perhaps i will change to and fro of these two when each becomes more tolerable with respect to "bugs".

As of now, i have found no better browser suited for my purpose.
