Why is mozilla not accepting facebooks certificate on my pc ?

more options

When i try to use morzilla to go facebook, weather i use my normal fb icon or google it and try a fb link in the results i get an error message saying,

'This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.facebook.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified. What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate.'

Ive never had this before, i have no other issue with any of my other sites.

So is this a hacker trying to get me to go onto a fake link or is it really a facebook morzilla issue they have right now ?

Could you expand the "Technical Details" section of the page and paste its contents in another reply?

To help diagnose the situation, could you open Facebook in another browser and examine the site certificate. Usually you can access that by clicking the padlock in the address bar. When you get the certificate viewer, the key section is the "Issuer" or "Issued by" section. What do you see listed there?

Meanwhile, you can check whether Firefox has a non-standard connection setting here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button

The default "Use system proxy settings" should piggyback on your Windows/IE "LAN" settings. But you can try "No proxy" to see whether that makes any difference.

Is this the details you meant ?

I tried opening it in Internet Explorer and i get the same issue, not valid certificate. So i can only look at fb certificate on my phone which have screenshot of. It has the isser & issued by.

I tried changing the proxy setting and no difference.

Hope this helps!

Oh, regarding Technical Details, it's the next section of the error page after what you quoted in your original post.

Does your phone use the same network (e.g., wi-fi network) as your computer? If so, the phone working normally would be a good sign that the problem is isolated to your computer instead of your network router.

Open this chrome URI by pasting or typing this URI in the location/address bar to open the "Add Security Exception" window and check the certificate:

  • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field type/paste the URL of the website

  • retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
  • inspect the certificate via the "View..." button

I can access my fb on my phone on my home wifi, i think it is my eset.

Do you mean the 'I understand' part ? i cannot see the that part now.

I have attached the chrome url page you asked for. If i select get certificate it just says, Certificate out of date.

I have some edge way, i remember reading that i could try and turn off the HTTPS on eset and try connecting to fb, i did that and it worked, loaded up fine. So for some reason eset thinks it has expired and hasn't been renewed, i try posting on the forum now.

This is a certificate that is issued by your ESET security software. So you need to contact ESET to get an update of this expired certificate.

Or you can disable this feature in ESET:

Setup -> Advanced setup -> Web and email -> Protocol filtering -> SSL
Certificates: Add the root certificate to known browsers
SSL protocol: Do not scan SSL protocol

Think its all solved, i realised i had an old version of eset, i have now updated to the new version and it all works now.

Thanks for the help jscher2000!!
