Hi, we are getting a lot of reports like yours of late. It may be a scam to infect you with malware, or in your case it may be legitimate because you are using Firefox 44 which in the interests of security should be updated to v47.0.1

To update it, open the 3-bar menu > Help (question mark at bottom right) > About Firefox. Alternatively, you can press the Alt key to bring up the main menu bar > Help > About Firefox. More - Update Firefox to the latest release.

Always use the above method to check for genuine updates yourself - it is unwise to trust random pop-ups, unless you are certain of their authenticity.

How can I stop getting these update requests altogether? The last update request updated automatically after declining it for about 4 months. It interrupted work so bad it made a serious reduction in production. I don't want to get fired just because of FIREFOX. To my disappointment, I was told by the trainers, the program I use for work works best on firefox. Iv'e tried explorer & google, It didn't work as smooth, slow and sluggish. I don't know which is worse. Use a search engine that hardly moves for the program or one that update requests keep popping up messing up what I'm working on.

I would always recommend that you update to the latest version to get security and stability fixes as well as new features.

You may wish to move to using Firefox ESR. It will still get security updates, but not so many more general updates. If you do wish to move, remember to carry over your Firefox Profile. You can read more about how to do this here.

To not be bothered while you're working, open Help > About Firefox and trigger the update yourself before you start working.

As soon as I do the update - a different one needs to be updated. I'm over whelmed with updates for mozilla. It's the worst search engine on the internet. I really wish I could use explorer.

Typically Firefox is updated every 6 weeks, per a schedule as posted here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/RapidRelease/Calendar A schedule similar to Google Chrome, but less frequent that what Microsoft does, monthly updates.

But occasionally there could be a minor version update to fix specific issues or to fix a serious security problem that can't wait for the next regular update.

What Scribe mentioned was fake Firefox updates, where the message is crafted to look like a Mozilla page and offers a "patch.exe" or "update.exe" file which is not how Firefox updates are done.

If you keep Firefox up to date and become familiar with the timing of the 6 week update schedule, there's a better chance of you recognizing a fake update off of the normal schedule.
