How do I delete desktop icons that don't connect to anything?

more options

I downloaded some pdf. files, and then used "Saved as" so I could rename them as I saved them. When I did that it seemed to split them into a "file folder" and another that appeared to be an "html...doc." The ones that became file folders pulled up when I clicked on "documents" and I clicked on "pdf" or downloads and showed up there. Then I noticed on my desktop, (2) icons for each on I downloaded and saved. I went back and deleted all the downloads from the inventory under "pdf" and html...doc."

But now I have all these icons on my desktop that I can't delete. If I move the icon th the "Trash" it doesn't go in. I won't go away when I right-click and click "delete" it won't. What does happen, a box comes up and says "Item not found", under that is says, "Could not find this item." Under that is states, "This is no longer located in C:\Users\Owner\Desktop. Verify the item's location and try again."

Please help, I am desperate. Thank you.

When you use Firefox's Save Page As feature, normally Firefox saves both the web page and all the linked-in files such as style sheets and images. That is not a good way to save a PDF. Instead, your PDF viewer (either the built-in viewer or Adobe's viewer) will have its own Save or Download button to save the PDF in its native format rather than as a web page.

How did you delete the files -- Windows Explorer? Windows should delete the HTML file and the corresponding folder as a pair. If you sent the deleted files to the Windows Recycle bin, try restoring them and see whether selecting all the unwanted files to delete at once is helpful.

If that doesn't work, a Windows guru might need to advise on how to handle it.

Just move it to the trash bin.
