This problem is common to firefox and waterfox, but not cyberfox or palemoon so it's not all of mozilla.

It's been going on since I installed firefox a few days ago after a long time of not having it on my machine. I installed waterfox today to see if it was common to both and it is.

On youtube (and some other sites) I see no images. There is no YT header image...no profile pictures/ icons on my own or other individuals pages or in chat. Also, there are no images that preview videos. This has also happened on another site or two but I do not recall which ones.

What I have tried:

Checked to make sure the browsers are updated - they are

refreshing the page

rebooting the computer

Starting browsers in safe mode ... no add ons

I've gone throught options page.. cannot find anything that says to block images

made sure media permissions are not set to block images

researched here to see if there are any recent solutions

I did find one suggestion regarding about:config and a browser display setting that is not present on that page

any thoughts on what else I should look at?

Also.. while I'm here.. might someone have an idea why I cannot run firefox and waterfox at the same time?

edited for spacing.. that whole wall of text was disconcerting

If images are missing then check that you do not block images from some domains.

  • you can tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar

Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools -> Page Info -> Permissions".

Check "Tools -> Page Info -> Media" for blocked images

  • select the first image and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list
  • if an image in the list is grayed and "Block Images from..." has a checkmark then remove this checkmark to unblock images from this domain

You can check these preferences on the about:config page and make sure they have the default value.

  • permissions.default.image (1)
  • network.http..sendRefererHeader (2)

There is Tracking Protection that can block (wanted) content, so check the location/address bar for special icons.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.

  • make sure that your extensions and filters are updated to the latest version

There is security software that can interfere with loading content, so check that as well.
