After firefox update, I lost all bookmark backups and history. Firefox Sync says everything is up to date
After a firefox update to version v56.0.1 (64bit) on windows. I could not restore my previous sesssion and I have no bookmarks.
I searched my profile folder :
> about:support > Profile Folder
=> .../User/xxx/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox directory but there was only 1 new profile folder and no bookmarkbackups I also searched in .../User/xxx/AppData/local/Mozilla/Firefox
I logged into Firefox Sync and sync'd my browser but nothing was imported.
In the past I used xmarks and I recovered some bookmarks from there but they're more than 5 yrs old. I have firefox on my mobile phone and the bookmarks on the phone are correct, but I don't know how to transfer them to my desktop.

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers before using sync again.
Close Firefox on your phone. Then send the bookmarks file to the computer. Many phones can be plugged into the computer to do this.
Place the file in a safe place. Now Copy that file to the Firefox profile with Firefox closed.
places.sqlite : History and Bookmarks.
After, test Firefox.
Thanks Fred, yes I was worried about doing a firefox sync on my phone because I'm not sure in which direction the sync would go...
I can't find the related firefox directories on my phone i.e. bookmarks, sessionstore, profiles etc... On the phone there's a directory
- Android/data/org.mozilla.firefox
But inside there's just 2 empty subdirs
- files/Download - files/temp
Any idea how to locate the bookmarks from the phone? There's no option to export them unfortunately. If I go to the firefox about:support page there's no link to the profile folder on the phone.
On the desktop when logging into my firefox account is there anyway to see the log files, sync history, is anything backed up there maybe?
Sorry, I do not know. I will call for more help.
