history and bookmarks seem corrupt since upgrading to FF4
Since I upgraded to FF4 it seems like I may have some corruption somewhere.
I have no objection to uninstalling and reinstalling, if it has a high probability of solving the problem. However I am not sure if anything (files, registry, etc) is left behind on uninstall, and found again on re-install. Perhaps there is an easier way as well.. like just deleting history and letting it re-create.
The specific problem that I am having is when visiting a link, that link may or may not show as a visited link. Yes I am aware that some site don't display visited links differently anymore.
Example: Site A has a new articles listing that does show links as visited. On this site, it's a toss up after I visit a link whether it will show as visited when I return to or refresh the new article listing.
Possibly related: I don't add new bookmarks very often, but a recent addition vanished after it was added. (however I'm far less concerned about this than my visited links issue--mentioning it since it may provide a clue).
Other than this issue, everything else with FF and computer itself seems to be functioning correctly and normally. Not positive when I specifically updated to FF4, but it has been several weeks and I never had this issue with FF3.x. Yes, I did notice the issue almost immediately after moving to FF4.

If you want to uninstall FF including all personal data & settings you can use the standard windows add/remove but I wouldn't recommend. I have used a free third party uninstaller for years which essentially runs the standard built in uninstaller, then scans the HD and Registry for leftover files and settings to wipe. The one that I have used you can get form www.download.com & its called Revo Uninstaller
You also need to make sure during standard FF uninstall that the remove personal data is check, this will allow for when you reinstall it's like a brand new copy.
yeah. While not opposed to remove and reinstall, i think there is a better way .
BTW revo is fine if you had it running at the time of install. Itis no better than any other registry cleaner if it didn't "watch" the install occur, that condition is what makes revo powerful.
This can be caused by a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.
- You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
- To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
- Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
that definitely seems like the answer ;)
I need to review my history and make sure I don't need anything else then i will definitely let places.sqlite recreate itself....
Assuming it solves the problem I'll mark the above answer as the solution in the next day or so..... thanks cor-el
