I use Chrome to find and UTorrent to download bit torrent files through my regular internet service.

I use Firefox to find and UTorrent to download bit torrent files through my proxied VPN internet service.

Both browsers are excellent at finding the files I am looking for (usually on TPB) and, wen I click the "Get This Torrent" button both browsers bring up the 2 pages associated with UTorrent.

With Chrome, the target file is quickly "handed off" to UTorrent and the download proceeds as expected

With Firefox, however, the target file is NEVER "handed off" to UTorrent (I have waited for an hour just to be sure it wasn't an incredibly slow process). I recently upgraded to Firefox 40.0.3 and had not experienced this problem prior to that upgrade.

Your suggestions and guidance is requested...please be gentle, I'm sure most of you have already figured out I'm not in the "Exceptionally skilled user" category. I appreciate your time and consideeration.

Chosen solution

First, re-install the torrent program. Make sure the installer takes care of the file associations.

Now, check the screen shoot.

Thank you Fred McD!

I followed your instructions, although I confess I have no idea how to "make sure the installer takes care of the file associations"...I simply threw out all my settings along with the program and let the install wizard start on a "blank page. Works fine and I thank you for making it so!
