It'll work for me for a while, just like TinkerCad, but eventually there will be a lag, and the tab will crash.

Have you tried in Safe Mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode

You should try running strace on the Firefox process and after it crashes check the log.

So the Safe/Troubleshoot Mode didn't load Wormax.io at all, and instead gave me an error message about WebGL (see attached screenshot).

As for running strace, I don't know which of the 9 process IDs to use to run Firefox this way from my terminal (see second screenshot). I like the idea of using a log to find out what's going on. Btw, I also tried using pstree, top, and pgrep, but these commands don't give me any output for a Firefox process ID.

No prob, looks like a different command you've given there anyway, no? I found my pid for Firefox and ran your previous command (not the ampersand one).

It's the damnedest thing, when I run strace -o firefox_logs -t -p 56467 (the most recent pid), I don't get a crash. I get TONNES of lag, and it seems like it's going to crash, but so far it hasn't. Just annoying lag which makes it extremely difficult to play.

What do you figure might be the cause of this?

K, I got a crash log, I think, but it makes no sense to me for what I should be looking for.

Admittedly, there was other activity after, so I'll try to get another with just opening up Firefox with that last command you showed me. It continues to just get laggy more than crashing lately, not sure why.

You should make note of the time of the crash, and then look for the same time in the logs to see what popped.

I had a crash today at 10:31pm, but I don't know what this output from my log means. I'll attach my log file here, but it's long--sorry, only way to share is via Google Docs, so let me know if that works or doesn't for you. Looking at 10:31:17 as just a few entries before it has a tonne from 10:31:47.

k, I'll run memtest86 this evening before bed (heard it can take a while...). I don't think I'm going to install the higher version of Firefox until it comes down the pipe for me to upgrade on my system. I'm nervous about installing software manually.

There is no install. Just download, unzip, and run firefox-bin in the firefox folder. I run a total of 3 version of Firefox, my distro version, plus Waterfox, all from folders in my Download folder. It would be a good test.

k, can you just walk me through that then? I've got the tar.bz2 file, so I extract it to the .mozilla folder? Or extract to the Downloads folder? And then in that extraction, make the firefox-bin file executable? How does that work with multiple firefox-bin files?

Did a memtest with memtester in 3 loops and all areas came out as ok. I just an update/upgrade notice yesterday, so I now have Firefox 95.0, whereas previously I had ver. 94. I'll try testing again within Wormax.io to see if it gets laggy and crashes more. Something else I hadn't mentioned, after the Wormax crash, there are other tabs on completely different sites (such as this saved tab with our discussion) which also crash when I try refreshing the page.

Run the file in the 1st pic. To get to this point just run these cmds ... bunzip2 firefox-94.0.2.tar.bz2 Then tar -xf firefox-94.0.2.tar You will then see a firefox folder like the one in the screenshot.

Thanks for the instructions! I actually now have the latest Firefox, and so far I haven't had the same issues. I do hear my computer working more than I feel like it should, but the lag issue isn't happening and it hasn't crashed in a while now, unlike before, where it was pretty consistent.

I guess I'll mark this as solved? It was really just the update to Firefox which helped, I guess? I'm curious what component of the update actually helped.
