No longer able to copy or paste text on Firefox with Windows 10. Copy and Paste are greyed out in the right click menu after selecting text. Using CTRL-C, V or P does nothing at all. Still works fine in other browsers. What has Firefox broken again this time?

How would I show the issue? No idea how to put Firefox in safe mode but troubleshooting mode did not resolve the problem.

The problem comes and goes. No way to understand what causes it or what corrects it. There is no way to take a screenshot of the right click menu with greyed out copy/paste options. Also, on Feedback, there is no way to recreate the issue using "Start Recording" because that too is not working. An error window pops up saying "Something went wrong. We couldn't start the recording. Please select Start recording to try again."

I removed all extensions. I refreshed firefox multiple times. I cleared the cache and data multiple times. I tried all the different Clipboard settings on and off to no avail. The greyed out "copy" and "paste" options on the right click menu after highlighting text keep recurring.

I see this problem posted in forums going as far back as 2013 with no solutions.

I have the same problem with Firefox 121 on Linux. Thunderbird on Linux has no problem with copy and paste. Firefox 120.6 worked fine.

Thank you texbiker. It's frustrating when you seek help and everyone acts like it's your own fault or you're making it up or are incompetent with computers. Never any solution. Firefox breaks some important fuctionality on a monthly basis and it's impossible to get help. All they do is refer you to the basic instructions which obviously don't work or I wouldn't be posting the issue. Then those impossible to understand lengthy, complex, technical, geek articles which never help either.

Yes, some bugs are not as essential as copy and paste. What version are you using? You could downgrade to an earlier version.

more options

I'm using 121.0 which as far as I can tell is the latest version. I have automatic update on and FF says my version is up to date. No idea what version 121.6 is or where to get it.

more options

If I downgrade to an older version, I start having profile problems with bookmarks and passwords. Never going down that nightmare path again.

How do I get FF ver. 121.6?

more options

The previous version was 120.6, not 121.6. Google Firefox downgrade instructions and it will show you how to find version 120.0.

While Firefox is broken you could use the Firefox based browser WaterFox. That's what I'm doing.

Any particular websites affected?

Does it still happen in a clean profile with any modifications?

All websites all profiles. Please don't blame me. It's a Firefox issue users have been having for years. Now it's back.

It's nothing I did. I have refreshed, reinstalled, safe mode, removed extensions, tried everything. It's a Firefox bug. Why not fix it?

Try and find some steps to reliably reproduce the issue.

more options

All I have to do reproduce the issue is copy text/URL and try to paste it. The paste option is grayed out.

more options

Steps to reproduce:

Set Bookmarks Toolbar to Always Show(to simplify the procedure)
Bookmark https://www.google.com/ as Google. And place it on the bookmark toolbar.
Copy any text to clipboard (to simplify the reprocedure)
   Close and reopen Firefox.
Click on Getting Started(I don't think it's limited to this one) in the Bookmarks Toolbar
Click on Google in the Bookmarks Toolbar
Right mouse click on Google's input field

Actual Results: Edit context menu are disabled

Expected Results: At least, Copy and Paste menus should be enabled.
