Running Firefox email boots Safari, FFox set as my preferred browser, I get multiple flashing tabs and both browsers flash, force quit feature is disabled, must shut down by cutting power, how do I remedy this?

In Preferences > Advanced > General, what happens if you click the Check Now button? It should tell you if Firefox is the default browser or not.
