When I type in a search box in Firefox, it does not display the letters I type. Instead it assumes letters that are way off base. If I start to type 'I am here', it types,' It is heavy'.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information such as bookmarks and history.

Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

This seems to help temporarily but has occurred before with the same fix. Fingers crossed.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

I have run scans and am clean. It seems each time I open a page in FF the type is too small. I close FF and when I open it again I have to press ctrl 2 to enlarge the type. isn't there a default font size on the tabs or pages that FF opens?

Code changes regarding HiDPI support for high resolution displays have landed in Firefox 22 and later (bug #844604).

You can modify the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref to adjust the size of all elements including the fonts in Firefox.

  • The layout.css.devPixelsPerPx pref is a String value parsed to a float and allows to fine tune the dimensions of all elements (user interface and web pages) more precisely (resolution 0.1 or 0.05 for finer adjustments).
  • Change the current default value -1.0 to 1.0 to make it work like in previous Firefox versions (100%)

If you need to make further adjustments then start with a value of 1.0 and adjust this value with 0.1 steps or 0.05 for finer adjustments.

  • Use values between 1.0 and about 0.5 to reduce elements in size (do NOT go all the way to 0.05!)
  • Use values greater than 1.0 to magnify and make elements larger (percentage divided by DPI, % / DPI).

If web pages needs to be adjusted after changing this pref then you can look at the Default FullZoom Level or NoSquint extension.

Use this extension to adjust the font size for the user interface:

I am grateful for the information but it is too complicated for me. I press ctrl and 2 to enlarge it. I gather there is a bug if I read your reply correctly. I wish I were skilled enough to attend to it. The extension seems to do the same a, ctrl and 2, or zoom does unless I am mistaken as it requires a manual adjustment with each page that is too small. Thank you

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Search layout.css.devPixelsPerPx

Fx22layout.css.devPixelsPerPx 4. Double click the result and type in a value between 0.9 and 1.1
