I am still having this problem and I am on version 55.03.

After some time with the browser opening I find the right click no longer working. (It is not the mouse as it still works in other applications). Also some left click stops working - noticeably the menu button top right corner.

Let me know if you want more info though some is difficult to get to when the menu button stops, and presumably only useful when the problem is occurring. Temporary fix - shutting Firefox and restarting - does clear the problem for now.

I have raised this again seperately as the previous question on this was closed and so dropped out of view.

Does this also happen in Firefox’s Safe Mode?

If not, disable add-ons one by one to find the culprit.

If so, you can try this:

  1. Type about:preferences#general<Enter> in the address bar (or: open the Options panel and click the General tab).
  2. In the Performance section, uncheck Use recommended performance settings if checked.
  3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.

Also see the Startup, home page, tabs, and download settings article.

If none of this helps: in your next Firefox session, open the Tools menu (press Alt when not visible) > Developer Tools > Browser Console and enable Logging. Then as soon as the issue occurs, look at that console for specific error messages occurring when right-clicking does not work, and copy and paste them here.

Thanks for all that - I will see what I can do. The problem is I have no idea how long it takes for the problem to occur, or if some specific action triggers it. I could be weeks trying any of the above and still not know for sure whether I have dodged the bullet or solved the problem.

I am inclined to go for your last option - then I can operate as usual until the problem recurs and post the logs then. Would that help?

The fact that the issue can come up unexpectedly does not make it easy, correct. Perhaps you should start with disabling hardware acceleration for that reason, as you probably won’t notice any difference. Otherwise, using Safe Mode is generally the quick way of troubleshooting, as add-ons are the first to cause issues. Feel free to choose the order, but I would perform all of them if one doesn’t help.

Instead of restarting Firefox when the problem occurs, you could also disable each add-on one by one when that happens, provided that it does not require you to restart Firefox. You could test which ones require one now so you know what order to disable them when needed.

For the Browser Console, any error message may also point to the affected add-on by performing a search, so yes, that would help. You may also be able to find similar issues for specific add-ons that way or in their reviews on addons.mozilla.org, so that may speed up solving it too.

Note that add-ons include themes, so if you have another than the default theme selected / installed, that could be the reason too. That would become clear when using Safe Mode, but people tend to focus on faulty extensions and overlook themes.

Having checked further, I don't seem to have any add-ons activated anyway (apart from Adobe Flash) and I am not using any themes, so I don't think that area will help. I have now made the performance and acceleration changes suggested and I will see if that changes anything.
