The use of mouse and keyboard creates a special event. If this was wrong in the program then it would effect everyone and the outcry would be huge. Such as when the middle click was not opening selected email in a tab in the background. This effected everyone because the code did not exist and a bug report was created and they are working on this.

However, any pressing/clicking of mouse means a signal is sent to the computer and the computer performs the specific event as per program code. If computer is not receiving signals correctly then it is not the program. The likely problem is with the keyboard unless you have been doing something by creating your own keyboard shortcuts.

I've done some tests some only using keyboard and others using a mix of keyboard and mouse.

To select various random emails in list to hightlight: Test 1: Press 'Ctrl' on keyboard and use left click with mouse to select various emails Result: works perfectly ok in both Table View and Cards View.

Test 2: Press/ Hold 'Ctrl', use up/down arrow keys to navigate to email, press 'Space' bar to select/highlight. Result: works perfectly ok in both Table View and Cards View.

To select contigous emails in a block: Test 3: Select an email and press and hold 'Shift', use mouse to select an email several further down list and all in between get highlighted. Result: works perfectly ok in both Table View and Cards View.

Test4: Select email, hold down 'Shift' and use up/down arrow keys on keyboard to select and highlight emails Result: works perfectly ok in both Table View and Cards View.

So, with a fully working keyboard, all the above are working correctly for me. I'm using beta 118.0b6, so this is version 115* - just a few updates ahead of the release version.

I would advise you to start by checking your keyboard because your computer sounds like it is not getting the necessary signals so cannot perform the task in the code.

Possible things to check: Is the 'Scroll Lock' switched on ? Maybe the keyboard is in need of a clean. Maybe you are using 'Razer Cortex' and it's stolen the shortcuts. I did locate this which effected alot of people, not necessarilly using Thunderbird, but a keyboard issue would not necessarilly be Thunderbird specific. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/excel/ctrl-shift-arrow-up-down-not-working/m-p/1857249

Hi You say your problem is 1) " cant select more than email at one time" I provided info on that particular issue. It works perfectly ok in 118.0b6, maybe the issue has been recently fixed and not yet appearing in the release version. I did notice the following has been fixed in 115.2.3

  • Multiple selected messages could not be opened simultaneously if selection included more than 19 messages

Otherwise so you must have something going on as I mentioned.

2) "- cant select multiple folders -also didn't work" Now this is not the same as the first problem. This particular issue does sound like the problem mentioned at the link you supplied. It also tells you a bug report was created and it also tells you it is a Wontfix which I feel is wrong. I am amazed that a new major upgrade has lost this particular functionality which effects workflow.

I would advise that you go to the following locations and vote for both of these bugs. In the top header area, under 'Details' is the 'Vote' option. You also must have an account to vote.

I have the same supernova problem 2) "- cant select multiple folders -also didn't work"

Working is extremely bad now, because there is an additional new behaviour which makes it even mor worse:

If i move a folder to another subfolder, this subfolder expands. Extremely annoying if i have to move 20 folder to the "_old" subfolders. The "_old" contains already 50 to 100 old folders. And for every single folder i have to scroll back to the top oft the "_old" subfolder tree to close this screen filling subfolder. First then i can see the next folder which i want to move to "_old". Doing this process for 20 folders is absolutely ennoying.

It ennoys in private and professional use, in both cases i use Thunderbird. Maybe not for long, if this cant be solved quickly.

Sounds like you are now experiencing this bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1863845

Please vote for both bugs I have mentioned. Developers tend to not read the Support Forum, but they do pay attention to the bug reports. Please note bug reports need to be kept on topic and specific. Developers get put off if comments contain how upset you are, but prefer specifics on what you do and why you do it and how it effects work flow, costs, risk of RSD etc.

Your support is valuable if this is going to get some attention.

Yea, not being able to select multiple folders for me is a big one.. I get a lot of FYI notices, from many different sources. many are repetitive. After grazing through a few of the newest ones, and more so if I was away for a day or two. I know which of the 100 or so folders to select, and mark them read in nearly one shot, since I have the located alpha numeric to make my work flow easier. Instead of I have to mark each folder "read" one at a time. Total loss of efficiency. Insane, a feature I used for years and years, now gone. (I've been using TB since it melded with Qualcomm's Eudora. Can't remember when multiple selection was an available feature, but seems I've been using it for folders and emails forever).

More so.. I read the bug report, and was a "tad" shocked how cause a single dev sees it as an edge case (guessing that dev does not use it. Doesn't mean the rest of the world may not.)( Bet there are thousands of users not bothering to voice the issue on a forum monitored by the devs, shaking their head with WTF on their breath. )Doesn't matter if it was lost on purpose or accident, that fact a dev can have a narrow of a vision is insane, on a feature that has been there for ages.
