Firefox has been freezing and moving very slowly recently. I have been trying to update the version from my current 3.6 to the newest version, but the automatic update freezes on "connecting to update server." I have disabled automatic updates, but there is no button under the "help" column for "check for updates." I would like to reload the newest version over the existing version, but do not want to lose my favorites and other data. I believe switching to the newest version would fix the freezing issues I'm having. I'm running Windows XP w/ SP3

I've tried downloading the beta of fennec (2.0), which says it's "Firefox 4.0". I click on firefox-beta-install in my download folder (which is Documents on my N900), it starts trundling, goes to Application Manager, trundles some more, and then tells me "fennec already installed."

I tried uninstalling fennec 1.1/Firefox3.6, and installing the beta, but it always goes to Application Manager which, I think, then insists on installing the standard version.

Is there any way around this??

Install in Safe Mode.

Thanks for replying :D ... but I'm confused :S . Are you saying start fennec in safe mode, then go to the site and download? What difference would that make? I close fennec and click the install package I downloaded and Application Manager is what tries to do the actual install. Or is there some way to do the install in safe mode? If so, could you show the command for that?
