I currently use webmail and want to migrate our emails to an other account we already have. However I cannot back up my emails and address book on webmail and don't want to lose anything. Can I back up using Thunderbird and if so, how do I do this. I'm afraid that my IT knowledge is very limited.

What is your current webmail provider, and which provider are you trying to move to? Some services, e.g. gmail, will import mail and contacts through their webmail interface. If your current provider offers POP or IMAP access, the mail can be downloaded to TB. It's also likely that you can export contacts to a format that can be imported to TB.
