My download window used to keep all my downloaded files until I manually cleared them 1 by 1 when I had time to check each individual file. Over the past two months, they have all been disappearing & now I think it is only saving the last forty days. How can i change this back to manual deletion? Now I have no clue what I have downloaded in the past six months ... I would like to get that history back & keep it until I decide to delete it not firefox making that choice for me. Thank you.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.

There are other things that need your attention.

You have a user agent that is corrupted by Fast Browser Search (FBSMTWB) and that identifies you as Firefox/3.5.9

  • Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100315 Firefox/3.5.9 FBSMTWB

Fast Browser Search is disabled on my system. I went in & reset the general.useragent.override to default.

As for getting my history back, do I need to get CC Cleaner? I do not have any cleanup software to my knowledge...

No, you do not need to get CCleaner.

The download history that is stored in the downloads.sqlite database file shouldn't get deleted by itself.
That should only happen if someone or some software (possibly cleanup of anti-virus software) is removing the file or data in it.

I read somewhere that Firefox has been shortening their history for privacy reasons. It used to be that at least 6 months were being kept in the download manger window before being automatically removed. At last count a week ago, it was down to 40 days. NOT ACCEPTABLE. I have now found an add-on called: Expire History By Days 1.1 to combat this problem. My history has now stabilized and is not disappearing anymore.

Thank you Firefox, but I do not want you to arbitrarily decide for me that a file should be removed from my download history. I download files constantly, but only have time to get to many of them sometimes months in the future. I need to be able to manually remove a file only once I'm finished with it, so I can keep track of everything. Thank you for this add-on, but you shouldn't have messed with my history in the first place......
