Since sorting my bookmarks I can't save new ones, though the bookmark 'star' icon still goes through the motions when clicked.

I've tried solutions suggested on related forums but without success. Keying Ctrl-D does nothing. If I click on the Bookmark star, it turns blue and floats to the suitcase. But the Unsorted Bookmarks area is empty. The list of recent bookmarks shows only the ones I saved and sorted months ago. Selecting 'Show your bookmarks' results in an empty grid, though I know the sorted bookmarks still are in their respective folders.

Does the star get highlighted when you click it to add a new bookmark? What happens if you click the star a second time?

That should open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog that allows to move the bookmark from the unsorted folder to another folder in the Bookmarks Menu folder or the Bookmarks Toolbar folder.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Hi Cor-el. If I click on the Bookmark star, it turns blue and floats to the suitcase. If I click on it a second time, it does the same thing. There are no bookmarks in the unsorted folder; that is the problem. I'll look at the links you suggest when I'm back at my desk (it's bedtime now), though I've a feeling I already have tried the fixes they suggest.

If the steps to fix the places.sqlite file do not work then try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if that helps.
