Imagine this. Email written and ready to send. Need to check spelling via spellchecker. I highlight the text and click on the "spelling" icon at the top of the screen. It does not show any errors in spelling, even when they have deliberately been introduced. Am I doing anything wrong? Mozilla otherwise working fine. Help please. Thank you.

No luck I'm afraid. I have done the Tools-menu-option-composition tab thing and clicked on "check spelling before sending" but it still will not correct errors. It may be of significance that the drop-down menu below which allows you to select a language is "dead" in the sense that it does not come to life when the cursor is hovered over it. The fact that you cannot select a language surely makes it hard for the computer to spell check - it does not know in which language, apparently. Is this the problem?

Many thanks

Looks like there is no dictionary installed. Get one for your language. https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/language-tools/
