Mozilla Extended Support Browser
Like probably a Lot of you I don't support the unethical So-called "Forced-obsolescence" and am not planning to "upgrade" Microsoft every 18 months or so for the next 90 years on each on Every single family Computer and give in to their Scare tactics for financial, environmental and Ethical reasons.
I am currently running Firefox "Extended Support," or ESR, I think it's called. Was wondering, If I ever **DO** decide to upgrade our bloatware Spyware operating system(s), basically if they break enough Apps like Apple Likes to do to force an upgrade, how difficult or easy would it be to Migrate from ESR to the latest regular version of Mozilla/Firefox...with all my Settings, etc. still in place?
Chosen solution
I don't like windows because it is Ridiculously-expensive for a Family of five. Mark, you can Take your Judgements of People Somewhere Else, they are Not Wanted here! I also don't like getting Ransomware (a Microsoft Thing.) Free Linux is faster(Less bloated), more Security-conscious, and does not Spy on you like WINDOWS
Like I said, to each his Own.

P.S. thank you for not being like google chrome (Sad face) and Requiring/Forcing their users to choose between Upgrading the microsoft Spyware O/s, or not getting any updates [on the browser].

Hi
Thank you for your question.
Possibly the easiest and safest way is to just install a copy of the mann Release version of Firefox and then (assuming you are already signed into Firefox Sync on ESR), sign into your Mozilla Account. This will then sync across your bookmarks and passwords.
Alternatively, there is nothing "wrong" with ESR and you will continue to get an annual upgrade where ESR catches up with the Release version of Firefox.
ESR is meant more for Enterprise users in mind as they like to have long term stability with allowed stability and security updates.
Firefox 128 ESR is based on the Firefox 128 Release but with stability/security fixes since.
The older Firefox 115 ESR is currently still being updated (last update Fx 115.21.0esr in March 2025 unless Mozilla extends updates again) to support the old eol Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and macOS 10.12, 10.13, 10.14 OS users in mind and are not meant for Windows 10/11 and macOS 10.15+ users as they will be served the current Release or Fx 128 ESR..
So you're saying that Mozilla supports the dreaded forced obsolescence?
(..I have Windows 7 and am planning to upgrade from windows to LINUX in the coming year)

If they truly did they would have stopped supporting the then eol Windows 7, 8, 8.1 back in early 2023.
i don't judge, at all, if people actually Prefer to use the very expensive spyware o/s microsoft
For example, maybe you live in Ireland - where microsoft and Apple pay their federal Taxes to - then it might make sense

That statement is are judging people. FYI Windows is the most used around the world by users there is a reason for that. Unix is not a easy language or GUI to use as users think when Unix became GUI they though they could do just like Windows operations and that couldn't be farther from the truth. They are totally different OS and one takes more in-depth to use then just simple GUI. Windows became that one GUI that didn't require a steep learning curve to use right out of the box. Judging people because they use Windows OS is clearly not a open mindset here.

Windows being the most used OS is not necessarily because it is the easiest to use but because it was overall the most available (oem systems) and cheaper compared to Apple desktops and laptops. There are Linux distros out there that do make it easier for the less technical Windows users transition for example.
Look at the popularity of Chromebooks in last years, They did not become popular laptops by individuals and schools because ChromeOS was a better or easier to use OS, but due to being cheap laptops. Though schools and such have regretted this as a lot of these Chromebooks become overpriced e-waste due to their short lifespans support, harder or lack of upgrade or repairability. Depending on the CPU used as in AMD, Intel, ARM it may be more work to install Linux to extend its life compared to a normal laptop made for Windows or Linux in mind, and I am not referring to the Linux part that more recent Chromebooks comes with.
Just because Windows is the most used OS on desktops and laptops does not mean it is the batter or easier OS to use. Some people consider it less user friendly compared to macOS or Linux. Windows 10 and more so 11 is getting disliked more compared to earlier Windows.
