I few days back I installed FF4(beta). Within moments I realised 4(beta) is 'BAD'. I reverting to 3.6.15.

FF now CONSTANTLY uses over 500MEG (1/2 GIG of 4) memory.Machine gets slower and slower eventually it becomes unusable until rebooted. Every program etc possible has been stopped from running to no avail.

I have used recommended and preferred FF for years. I am very concerned. I am even tempted to go Chrome. Can anyone advise/assist.

Create a new profile exclusively for the 4.0 beta version and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile.

Thanks for your attempt to assist, unfortunately you have missed the point. I have DELETED '4' completely. I don't want it and have no intention of re-installing it. My problem started AFTER I reverted to '3.6.15' which had NOT been giving me any problem previously.

You should be careful with downgrading a profile that has been used by a Firefox 4 beta version to a Firefox 3.6.x version. Some, mostly sqlite, files are upgraded to newer versions. You may also encounter problems if you upgrade to Firefox 4 at a later time. So you may have to create a new profile for the Firefox 3.6.x version if you keep having problems.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
