Why can't I sort Recently Bookmarked items by name?
The recently Bookmarked items is a very handy feature, but what would make it fantastic is the ability to sort these items by name, in the same manner as one can sort the Bookmarks Menu. The default sort seems to be most recent at top, however, when a bookmark that I use frequently begins with the letter "D" it is all the way at the bottom because it has been in the list for a while. Sorting by name can't be that difficult to do!

Hi dlandrum, unfortunately that list is purely chronological. Here are a few other ways to access a frequently used bookmark:
(1) Place it in a convenient position either on the optional Bookmarks Toolbar, or on the Bookmarks Menu
By default, new bookmarks are added to the end of the Other Bookmarks list. You can move them to another location using the Library window. See: Use bookmark folders to organize your bookmarks.
Toolbar:
See: Bookmarks Toolbar - Display your favorite websites at the top of the Firefox window
Menu:
To access the menu more conveniently, you can add the optional button () to your main toolbar. Either:
(A) Use the Customize panel (Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars) to drag the icon to the desired spot on the toolbar
(B) Use the method from Bookmarks in Firefox - section entitled: How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?
- Click the "Library" button:
- Click "Bookmarks"
- Click "Bookmarking Tools"
- Click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"
(2) Use the "Awesomebar"
When you type part of the title or address of a bookmarked site into the address bar, Firefox will show matches from your bookmarks, as well as your history, in the drop-down below the bar. If a bookmark has some unique text, you can type a few characters, arrow down, Enter, or click.
(3) Add the site to the "Top Sites" section of the new tab page
This page has more info on how to customize those tiles: Customize your Firefox New Tab page.
Will any of those work for you?

Note that the "Recently Bookmarked" shows the result of a places.sqlite database query sorted by last visit date. Ordering this list alphabetically wouldn't make sense, all such 'recent' type queries are ordered by date/time.
Name: Recently Bookmarked Location: place:folder=BOOKMARKS_MENU&folder=UNFILED_BOOKMARKS&folder=TOOLBAR&queryType=1&sort=12&maxResults=10&excludeQueries=1
