I can't remove "Better Surf" add-on; the options disappeared.

Firefox disabled "Better Surf", I think because of security issues. I restarted Firefox as suggested to complete the procedure. At first the add-on "Better Surf" had the options "disable" and "remove". Then I made the mistake of clicking on "more information" in the "Better Surf" area. It seems this caused the options to disappear.

This having happened, is there any way I can remove "Better Surf"?

What I actually did is use as anti-malware program. That removed it.

Run Windows Defender. It finds you malware, and just clean it.

I am having a similar problem. The better surf add on is disabled - remove option is not available. I have run anti-malware programs to remove it, but the scans did not detect anything. The program better surf came with has been uninstalled. Any recommendations?

many thanks!

I ran "malware bytes anti-malware" and this cleaned out the remnants of "better surf". Also, the remove option became available again.

Thanks! Although, that was exactly the program I ran as well (It had worked before) but not now. I was ad free for about 2 weeks. Now they are back and I can't get rid of them. No remove function, not detectable by the anti malware program. Did anybody have the same issue of the ads suddenly returning? (I did not install any new software, or updates - I also checked all programs that are currently installed on my computer)

Thanks again!

hello pmbk, could you go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum?

Hello Philipp, I tried to copy and paste, but can't post (too long - I could post in 2 comments I suppose) - I do think I might have found the problem (one pop up ad just showed "provided by media player" instead of "better surf" and I realized there was another media player other than windows media player installed - I uninstalled and restarted again and for now it seems fine. I hope that was it - unless I am missing something else. It's still not possible to remove the better surf add on though.

Thanks!!

ok, i was interested especially in your extensions-section of about:support, in case the better surf addon was updated to circumvent its blocklisted state...

if you have/had an issue with malware, i'd recommend running a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.

Here is the extensions info anyway. I didn't run a full scan - will definitely do that anyway as well. Thanks again!
