I don't want to run it in full screen mode, because it won't allow me to easily move down the firefox window and maybe look at the desktop, or open a media file on it etc I just like to have it in non-fs mode, because I'd just drag the firefox window and do other stuff, while still seeing a part of it.

Hi,

This information might help you. http://lifehacker.com/5280456/hide-your-mac-menu-bar-and-dock-for-a-cleaner-desktop

it didn't work for firefox, I opened info.plist with a text editor (I don't have "property list editor" app) and I found no such string as mentioned in the tutorial.

I assume that you need to make the change in the Firefox plist file ("~/Library/Preferences": org.mozilla.firefox.plist).

That's strange, I don't the firefox's plist file there, I have two other "org" plist files, though: org.postgresql.postgres.plist and org.cups.printers.plist

I doubt anything is corrupted on my system, as it's a relatively clean OS, just started using it recently.

So, I don't have such line in my plist.info

how to disable that top bar, then?

ok nvm, I managed to find this file, but when I opened it with an appropriate editor, there were very few options, and of course the file didn't have the necessary file, perhaps I should create it manually? What type of value is it? Boolean/string? Help.

Hi, Sorry about the long delay in responding. Most of the contributors that respond here are volunteers and are here on their own time.

I don't see any properties in that .plist but I've found a few different alternatives. Let us know which ones work.

Here are a few options you could try. I don't own a Mac so I can't test these personally.

  • Nocturne: You can set up this app to hide the menu bar when not in use. I remember you could hide the menu bar directly from the Settings in OS X but I can't be sure.
  • Menu Eclipse: This "dims" your menu bar but I thought I would include it here anyway.
  • MagicMenu: This actually seems like the best option. Simple and straightforward.

I'm somewhat positive that the MagicMenu application is the one you are looking for.

I was kinda for an automatic method, kinda inconvenient to disable top bar for firefox specifically each time it starts. ...

dramadeur,

The MagicMenu application hides the top bar universally. It doesn't just hide it for Firefox. It hides it for every application even when on the Desktop. Give it a download and let me know if it works for you.
