For some reason, the Bookmark This Page (command-D on a Mac) no longer works. I hit it, and nothing happens. I know the command-D in the Finder window works, because it makes a duplicate of the file I hit command-D on. But it's not bookmarking any pages anymore. What's the deal. It was working the last time I did a bookmark (about a week ago). No new add-ons added, nothing different done since then. Just stopped working. I have to go the menu and manually choose Bookmark This Page. Shortcut key doesn't work.

Can you try to access Firefox in Safe Mode to see if the problem still exists and/or if it opens? You can follow the below instructions to start it in that mode.

  • Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
  • When Firefox closes and re-opens, select Start in Safe Mode

If Firefox works fine after starting in Safe Mode, then it's most likely one of your extensions misbehaving. You can enable your add-ons back on by one until you find the conflicting extension.

So this is what I did.

- Before restarting Firefox in Safe Mode, I did the command-D again. Still wasn't working. - Restarted Firefox in Safe Mode. Did command-D. It works. - Restarted Firefox. All add-ons that were ON before the Safe Mode, are back ON. Did command-D. It works.

NOTE: I did not doing anything with the add-ons, other than disabling them on restart for Safe Mode.

So it's not the add-ons, it's the app itself. Another issue I've been running into as well, is when I set up custom icons on the Navigation Bar, for some reason, it randomly resets back to the default icons. In the last few days, I've had to change back to my custom icons about 3 times. Would also be nice to have preset options for this.

Not to mention that Firefox is the ONLY app that sucks up a huge chunk of my ram. Next to only Kernal Tasks, and Photoshop (which it should because I allocate a lot of ram to it). Firefox seems to get worse and worse with each update. Firefox 3.x was the best, in regards to stability and reliability. It's only gone downhill since 4.x.

Al you may had need to do is to close and restart Firefox.

You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file for the issues with the toolbar customization.

That's what I tried to do intially. I restarted Firefox 3 times. We shouldn't have to keep restarting Firefox to fix issues that pop up out of nowhere. And pops up frequently. Never had to before. I even restarted my computer, and repaired permissions. It would seem going into safe mode and back out is what fixed it. That's a glitch in the software. Along with the Navigation Bar resetting on it's own. And the memory hog.

Yes, that is one of the troubleshooting I did. Didn't work. It would seem for now though, the navigation toolbar is behaving. Then again, it resets randomly.

You did quit the Firefox application (Firefox > Quit)?

It might have been necessary to rebuild the (XUL) caches if restarting wasn't enough.

If you keep having these problems then also look at your installed extensions as possible causes.

Again, I restarted Firefox a number of times. No go. Not extensions. See previous posts. Random glitches, when there wasn't issues before, and no new add-ons were installed. I've even deleted Firefox and anything that might be associated with it (minus bookmarks), and reinstalled all the extensions (I haven't installed any new add-ons in almost a year). And still find these issues popping up on and off.

The most annoying is the memory consumption of Firefox. It's ridiculous. It can suck up to 2.6 GB of ram, in about 2 days of constantly being activated. And every time this happens, I have to restart Firefox. Very tedious. Old Firefox never had that issue. Neither does Safari or Chrome. I can use and leave these on for days, and they would never lag, and memory usage hovers at 100-300MB (depending on how long it's been running).

An update to this Bookmark issue. It's on and off. It'll start working for a little while, and randomly stops working for a little while. Then it'll start working again. Firefox 28 is broken.

Update 2: so I just found out that when the Bookmark shortcut key stops working, I can get it to start working again by restarting Firefox.

1. That's inconvenient. 2. Shouldn't have to keep restarting every time something goes wrong. 3. Something goes wrong frequently with Firefox. 4. Which means I have to frequently keep restarting Firefox to fix.

Firefox 28 is broken. Going to switch to Chrome. When Firefox decides to stop breaking what wasn't broke, I may decide to go back. Chrome isn't as versatile, but it's at least far more stable than Firefox.
