It's not unusual for downloads to include things like credit card statement, annual summaries, financial statements, and other sorts of sensitive data. How secure are these downloads when they are stored in the Firefox default folder?

They are just as secure as any other files on your computer, it's just a regular Windows folder so there is no special security applied. You can make sure you keep your computer secure in different ways:

  • Update your Operating system (you are running windows 8, you should be on 8.1 or later)
  • Make sure you keep Firefox up to date
  • Have a good anti-virus (the one built into Windows 8 is fine)
  • Scan for malware regularly using malwarebytes
  • Follow good practices and don't install software you don't trust.
