Can't remove Pocket from Bookmarks using msconfig
I opened Firefox and saw View Pocket List. The link takes me to information about the add-on, which I don't want and haven't signed up for. I can't right-click on the bookmark.
I tried the following, posted by edmeister (sp?) __________ That menu item is part of the new Pocket feature in Firefox 38.0.5.
See if disabling the new Pocket feature makes that "view pocket list" bookmarks menu item go away.
Type about:config in the Location Bar and hit Enter. Accept the warning message. Put this pref in the Search field to filter those advanced preferences
browser.pocket.enabled - the default value is true. To turn this feature off - either right-click that pref and select Toggle or double-click that pref to change the value to False. __________
Even after I changed the value to False and re-started Firefox, the View Pocket List is still in my bookmarks menu. I want to remove it. How can I do this?
Chosen solution
Is browser.pocket.enabled set to true?
You need to set this pref to true to have the Pocket button on the Navigation Toolbar or elsewhere in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list or the Customize palette. Then you can right-click this button the remove the button and the menu items.
You may need to close and restart Firefox after toggling the pref.

Nope, it's not there. Any other ideas? The links that you suggested don't apply, because the Pocket icon isn't in the toolbar to begin with.
The links apply as far as they were given to show how to move items from the Addtitional Tools and Features palette in general, one of them being the Pocket button. Also, having the Pocket button in the toolbar is not a prerequisite, even though it may appear in there in support article images or in any other screenshot. It could be anywere in these 3 places - as far as I know it might not even be on the toolbar by default, so it should be either in the menu or the palette. It may even have been moved accidentally and reside somewhere else than in the top right, as mentioned in the first article’s video tutorial.
- Is your browser.pocket.enabled preference still set to true? (It should.)
- Do you use a default en-US version of Firefox? Or rather, any version listed in the Pocket article’s first paragraph, so not e.g. an en-GB version?
- Have you ever tried (or have somebody else try) to disable Pocket in any other way, e.g. by using some trick, add-on, or changing other preferences that contain "pocket"? Or the other way around: enabled it if you use any version other than en-US (or the ones referred to above)?
- Could you look for the browser.pocket.enabledLocales preference and post its content here? Does this pref still have its default value (indicated in regular black, not bold)? Does it contain "en-US", without quotes? (When bold or en-US is missing, right-click and choose Reset.)
Like others wrote above, if the button is not "hidden" in the palette, Pocket will be seen as enabled and hence the View item will still show up in your Bookmarks menu. Therefore you have to make sure the Pocket button does not appear anywhere else (see the video for places to put it), or make sure to use the Restore Defaults button like suggested - that should move it to the toolbar in the top right, and then you should be able to right-click that button (not the menu item) and choose Remove from Menu.
Also note that when disabling Pocket in any way while the button was somewhere else than on the palette beforehand (!), the Bookmarks menu item will remain visible. That goes for setting the browser.pocket.enabled preference to false (so you shouldn’t), as well as by any other way of disabling it. e.g. by removing en-US in the pref mentioned above.
Good news: I went into about:config and re-set it to True. The Pocket icon finally appeared on the toolbar, and I right-clicked to return it to Customize. Problem solved. Thanks, everyone.
