After my laptop crashed, I started using Thunderbird on the home PC, which I'd never done before, so it was a new setup. I didn't have a chance to backup my profile before the crash, so I was starting from scratch. I've set all the junk settings to learn and place mail marked SPAM into the junk folder of my personal email acct. It's been a month and it is still only putting about 4 in 100 emails in the junk folder, so I know it CAN move the emails to junk. It is just not doing it. I can select them in my inbox and mark them as junk and Thunderbird will move them to the Junk folder, but no amount of fiddling will get TBird to do it automatically like it did on my old laptop. Checking email has become a very time consuming task. I do have "enable junk filter logging" chosen. Would that be the culprit.

And another annoying this is that Thunderbird is now marking ALL my mail as read when it hits the inbox. I do not have that checked for regular or junk mail. Anyone know what's up? Thank you.

was your old account POP and the new one is IMAP. You issues sound a lot like a new IMAP user trying to come to terms with IMAP,

WHat mail provider? Are you using an anti virus? Is you mail also being downloaded on a phone or tablet. (Phones in particular cause lots of issues marking mail read when they access it.)

yes on the first question. The old one was POP and the new one IMAP. I have no idea why. Should I go back to POP?

Private server mail provider and yes on antivirus, but I don't think that is it. Yes on phone access. However, I did not have the problem of emails being marked read when I downloaded them on the computer before this new install, and I've been reading mail on my phone for years.

Thanks for any suggestions or help. Meg
