Website displays in local language instead of english as in options

When I am traveling the websites often display in the local language instead of english. I have English set as my language in "Options". I believe it is to do with "geoblocking" but why can I not use the ".com" version instead of being forced into the local website version?

Firefox sends a list of language preferences, but sites don't have to honor it. They typically will check your general location using your IP address when deciding what to serve you.
