Aye,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Let me know if this helps. I can also access the website. Have you tried a new test profile at all?

When I try to access the Wildgoose Chase forum (https://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php) I receive an error message: The connection has timed out

The server at wildguzzi.com is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Update: website will not load in Safe mode. Refreshing Firefox did not make any difference.

When I start from the home page, click Discussions in the left column, then the link to go to the forums, I get this address:

https://www.wildguzzi.com/forum/

Since it is a secure site: have you noticed any other issues connecting to secure sites, or is this the only one that has a problem?

Nope - my email, back sites, everything else works fine. It's just this ONE site.

I'm going to turn off hardware acceleration now to see if that works...

Meant to say 'bank sites'

Do you use any "parental control" filtering software that could interfere with your connection?

Can you think of any reason that your current IP address might be blocked? If you use a VPN or peer-to-peer network, it's possible your "exit node" IP address is banned, or maybe it's your home network IP address.

Tried all the above steps w/o success. By new test profile do you mean a new user on my PC?

Just created a new PC user account and am still unable to access this website.

However, I turned off the WiFi on my tablet and I CAN access the website so might it be some sort of router/server issue?

You could try "power cycling" your router (i.e., unplug its power cord, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in).
