10 days ago couldn't get on to the internet. Thought this was my serivce provider talktalk and eventually ended up removing all my internet connections and reloading the whole lot with the origional disc only to find I still could not connect. Tried connecting with internet explorer and can access every site. Problem is clearly with Firefox but despite experimenting disabling all and then individual add ons and plug ins can still not get firefox to connect to any site with getting a problem loading page screen and the message "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at" which is displayed for every web site I have tried.

In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings". See "Firefox connection settings" in Server Not Found - Troubleshoot connection problems

You can find the connection setting here: Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select No Proxy

Another possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that,. Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox. See Server Not Found - Troubleshoot connection problems and Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls

It was the firewall that did it. Couldn't findany evidence of it preventing or having any rules for access to mozilla but restored the default settings and I am back on.

Thanks

I have the same problem. Neither of these solutions worked for me. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Firefox works fine from my laptop connected to the same wireless network.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.
