Awesome bar does not open sites directly.
When we type nokia india in FF3 it opened http://www.nokia.co.in/ or samsung india it opened up http://www.samsung.com/in/ directly. But this feature does not work with FF4. When we type the keyword nokia india it takes us to google search. How do i get the previous feature

There is a change in Firefox 4 in how Location bar search works.
- In Firefox 3.6.x, Location bar search uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and
- if there is a clear match it will take you to the site
- otherwise it shows the Google search result page
- Firefox 4's default is
- to perform a Google search and present the Google search results page if you type something which is not recognized as a URL
- you must type a complete URL, such as www.youtube.com , to go directly to the site
- Also make sure you do not clear "Browsing History" when using Clear Recent History:
- To get the Firefox 3.6.x behavior in Firefox 4. you need to change a hidden preference.
- Type about:config into the location bar and press the Enter key
- If you see a warning, zccept it (promise to be careful)
- A list of preferences will open
- Filter = keyword.URL
- Double-click on that preference in the lower pane
- A small window will appear; copy the line below and paste into the box in that small window (or type it into the box in that window exactly as shown below):

You need to update the following plugins:

Helper -- thank you! I just posted a similar question at the same time you sent your response.
I'm not sure why FF4 took this route as the default, IMO it is a big step backwards and the old FF3.x operation is much preferred.
Thank you for your reply on how the location bar works. Regarding "To get the Firefox 3.6.x behavior in Firefox 4". Will changing the suggested config revert only location bar changes or completely revert it to old behavior? Thanks
coolmits: Only search from Location bar is affected. The change will allow you to type nokia india and samsung india as you did in Firefox 3.6, and if that took you directly to the site, the change should make Firefox 4 do the same.
This feature does not worj with FIREFOX 6. I have tried the solutions above.. i have done it a lot of times.
but nothing works this time. though it was working with previous version. Please make it possible again
