After upgrading to Firefox 7, using the Java Version 6 Update 27 does not work, nor is displayed in plug-ins. How do I fix this?

Platform: Ubuntu 10.10 - x86

I upgraded to Firefox 7 using the stable PPA. Then, I attempted to install the Java JRE plugin with instructions from here: http://java.com/en/download/help/linux_install.xml#selfextracting

The plugin is not listed and does not function when I test it using this link: http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

I figured it out.

The location of the plug-ins has changed. For Firefox 7, the plugin folder location is: /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins

Shut down Firefox 7.

Change to the new firefox plugins directory: cd /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins

Then Create the symbolic link in the /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins folder: ln -s /usr/share/java/jre1.6.0_27/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so

Start Firefox Now, the new Java Plug-in should be listed.

Test it here: http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

Hope this helps!

well...i go only to the site "Test it here: http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml". After this i was able to go to a site with the title "Java Downloads for All Operating Systems" and here you download your JRE for your OS. For XP or Win 7 it was a java 6 update 29-b11. The file to install is named jxpiinstall.exe. After install an restart you go again to testvm.xml and see that the java plugin works fine.... (see the screenshot)... cheers marco
