go back to chosing folder when bookmarking presently tags just add more work!!!
Please bring back the simple book mark process of choosing a folder...!!!!!!! This is sooooo frustrating.......my book marks get scrambled then I have half of the book marks moved into the unsorted folder then I have dozens of tags and recently booked marked files and do not see a tool to delete duplicates. Duplicate 'unsorted book marks' folders etc.
Also how can I rename book mark folders. I have tried from the file tree and folder tree and nothing. I have spent over an hour and a half cleaning up this mess TWICE!!!
How can I make my utter frustration more clear?????
Change for the sake of change is not always better.

If there are problems with the bookmarks and you use Sync then best is to temporarily disconnect Sync before trying to repair the bookmarks.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

- Places Maintenance: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
Click the star at the right end of the location bar once to bookmark the current site (this will highlight the star) to the Unsorted folder
Click the highlighted star to open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog and move the bookmark to another folder or edit the name
Click the arrow at the far right (outside) of the folder field (i.e. not the arrow in the folder field, but the one further to the right) in the "Edit This Bookmark" window to access the complete folder list. This full folder list also opens if you click the drop marker in the Folder field and click the "Choose..." item. The full folder window has a button to create a "New Folder" (look for a button with "New Folder" or a "+" under the folder list). If folders in the list aren't expanded (i.e. are closed) then look for a, possibly faint, arrow icon to expand (open) the folders.
Endret
2 points. 1-Yes, I did disconnect Sync. after an hour of cleaning up duplicates I reconnected Sync. Later in the evening duplicates all over again....one hour wasted.
2- All this clicking editing moving is all wasted time and hog wash. The SIMPLE solution is to go back to "choosing" a folder when bookmarking, period. When researching and saving a half dozen bookmarks I do not want to start looking for tags, and folders and edit and moving.
Summary: When the Sync concludes its process I have duplicate book marks AND unsorted bookmarks that moved over from my bookmark files. I installed a bookmark duplicate cleaner and it took over 20 minutes because it found over 23,ooo duplicate book marks......this is just absolutely insane.
Chrome is not perfect none are and realistically do not expect perfection but the bookmark process USED to work fine. The "NEW" process could have been made as an add on and left the working process alone.
For now I am in the process of learning Chrome. Last point. By disconnecting "SYNC" FF will still NOT ALLOW Xmarks to work. It locks up at the first click on any page.
Again, unacceptable........I am truly sorry that I have allowed my frustration to get the best of me but the older I get the less time I have to waste on work arounds for the sake of 'improvements' that really are not.
Thank you for being more patient then I have been!
OK, we have gone through TWO iterations of FF and the Book Mark issues is still bad!
When you Mozilla FIX it so when one wants to book mark a site it simply goes to the folder choices and one is selected?
2. When will Mozilla FIX compatibility with XMarks? It still locks up.
The FF BM manager scrambles over 500 book marks and still duplicates up to 3 thousand book marks this is insane !!!!!
How do users contend with such poor functionality??
I have over a hundred new bookmarks that I cannot re-organize because the sync will make duplicate and triplicates and ALL my folders get scrambled after spending over 2 hours trying to clean this mess up.
Seriously folks is this what passes for 'improvements?"
Did you try to delete the places.sqlite files?

Did you try to delete the places.sqlite files?
please explain what that will gain me. Will that prevent another 5 to 10 thousand duplicate book marks? Will it prevent the book marks once organized again after spending 3 hours and more and keep them intact or split them in to multiple empty folders?
Once deleting that file mentioned then what? Will I have to import my book marks or will the sync bring them back in? The sync function is what is destroying my organized book marks after spending hours cleaning them up.
I will try it once, depending on the reply.
Lastly is NO ONE ELSE having these issues???
Thanks....

And yes, I have deleted FF completely using REVO Uninstaller, rebooting and then downloading the latest FF revision and yes, same results after sync loads up my book marks.....with thousands of the duplicates and dozens of empty duplicate folders....
SIGH.....
You're using Sync and Xmarks together? That is sure to cause problems with Firefox bookmarks, as reported by other users of Xmarks.
