Why are drop-down menu choices black?

more options

Drop-down menu choices in the latest version of Firefox are blackened out until the cursor is hovered over an individual choice. This is something new for Firefox. Drop-down menu choices should be visible to make selection easy. This is a pain in the *&(*.

This appears to be something that Mozilla needs to fix and not anything I am doing. Please let me know if I am wrong!

Just to understand more of the issue you are having, is there a specific website you're not able to see drop-downs? or is it for every site?

This happens for every Web site. When the drop-down menu arrow is clicked, the menu drops down, but all of the selections are in black. When the cursor is hovered over an individual possible selection, the text is visible against a white background. This happens regardless of what computer I am on.

First method is to try this: Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar. Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

If this doesn't work, try loading Firefox in safe mode via: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode And then try the above method.

If this issue persists for all browsers, you can try this below: Computer Search --> System Properties (Control Panel) --> Advanced --> Performance Settings --> Visual Effects --> Custom --> Check-box Fade or slide menus into view.

Just to ensure everything matches, I have all checked besides (1) Save taskbar thumbnail previews (2) Show shadows under mouse pointer

Is the problem with "select" controls? For example, the car brand selector on the right side of this page:

Multi-Process?

One of the main technical changes in Firefox 54 was to enable more individual content processes. In Firefox 48-53, the Firefox multiprocess feature would create one process for the UI and one process for content. Now Firefox will aim for four content processes. Perhaps this is an unexpected side effect of this change??

You could try rolling back the number of content processes to 1. If this doesn't work, you may need to revert to single-process mode. Here's how you can try this:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste ipc and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the dom.ipc.processCount preference is bolded and "user set" to 4, double-click it and edit the value to 1, then click OK

Presumably that will not take effect until the next startup, at which time you should check it to make sure it hasn't reverted back. Any difference?

Alternately, you can disable multiprocess mode using a different preference:

(4) In the search box above the list, type or paste autos and pause while the list is filtered

(5) Double-click the browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 preference to switch the value from true to false

Note: the exact name of the preference may vary, but it will start with browser.tabs.remote.autostart

At your next Firefox startup, it should run in the traditional way. Any difference?

First, the link above brings up HTML code, not an auto site.

Next, after I enter "about:config" in the address bar, the disclaimer "This may void your warranty" is displayed. I'm not comfortable going forward...

Thanks.

Guess I'll use Edge instead of Firefox.

'This is not the case for all browsers. Edge displays menus properly. It is only an issue for Firefox 54.

The link brings up a demo page. On the left side, you can decide what is listed in the drop-down, and on the right side, you can work with the drop-down. As a starting point, it lists some car brands.

When you click the control on the right side, are the options that drop down black-on-black?

If those are okay, can you give a link to a site where you have this problem and point to which part of the page it is?
