Created second profile (intended for business use) on my USB stick, I thought that naming the profile in create new profile would create a folder of that name in my chosen destination, it didnt, and created the profile in the root directory of my USB stick, I then realised this had not created a new folder with the name I used in the new profile setup, so then removed profile in the profile setup page, and it deleted the whole USB stick!! Doh. Can I recover the data, ie reverse the profile deletion? I have lost a whole load of important stuff.

OK, FIXED!

I couldnt find anywhere in FF that I could reverse the delete profile. So looked into USB Stick data recovery possibilities/tools.

The mishap happenned when migrating to a new Air, copied my main profiles across, TB and FF, all good. Then had to set up links to the 'work' profiles on my encrypted stick. I cocked it up as you can see from my initial post.

My 'work' TB and FF profiles were on an encrypted volume on a USB stick. I didnt think that I would have a chance of recovering the data after FF deleted all the data on the encrypted volume. However, I didnt touch anything, no read/writes to the volume, and left it mounted, albeit empty.

Very handy having general/public profiles on your mac, but having work profiles on an encrypted stick. Open FF or TB then go to profiles and open alt profile in a new window. I love this feature!! I can use my mac with both profiles open during the day, then close the second iteration of FF and TB and eject the stick and lock it away in the office at night leaving nothing sensitive on my laptop.

So, recovering from my heart attack this morning, USB stick data recovery became my theme of the day.

I looked around and found quite a few aps that purported to do this.

I decided to give iBeeSoft Data Recovery a go.

Tell you what guys, this did the job!!! Found all my files, saved them to laptop keeping their folder structures and all.

The free version recovers only a few megabytes (which I didnt know) and you need to pay for premium for larger amounts of data, which I thought was a bit expensive at the time, but it worked!! and totallly worth the cost to me as I also had crypto log ins on that stick and losing these would have been a huge loss.

I don't know how deleting works on Mac, but you might need to use some kind of "undelete" program.
