I have a Flash problem that seems similar to others I have seen but not exactly.

Flash has stopped working on some applications - the little flash windows in Facebook show and image but when I put the mouse over them it all disappears. If I hit the right spot sound will play, but no image.

I use a couple of video player sites, its the same issue there - where there was a player - play, pause, vidoe controls etc now its blank, sometimes black, sometimes white space.

You Tube though, works fine. AS does at least one Flash game. (Angry Birds)

The issue came about suddenly too. I was looking at a video site, went to another page on the same site and suddenly the issue happened. No shut downs, restarts, uploads etc.

Any help will be appreciated. Plus, Mozilla, please get an alternative to Flash. its has been nothing but trouble and I really like Firefox otherwise.

Cheers

Charlie

Charlie, Shumway has been in the works for a while to become a build in flash player, however it is still being tested.

As for the weirdness in Shockwave flash there are two troublsheooing steps I can suggest:

  • Try to reinstall it
  • Disable hardware acceleration in the Flash options.:

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

Hi Guigs Thanks for your response. FYI I had already re-installed and that didn't work. However, a system re-start did the trick and the issue hasn't re-appeared. Thanks for reaching out and if I see other issues, as there so often are with "not-so" Flash, I'll apply your suggested fix. Thanks

Charlie
