Taskeng.exe malware is diverting me from my Firefox homepage to Yahoo and I can't figure out how to delete it.
I have run scans using Norton Security Suite and Microsoft Safety Scan and cannot get rid of the Taskeng.exe malware. My guess is that because it shares the same name as a legitimate file, the virus software does not recognize it as malware. I also went on line for suggestions and tried opening the computer in Safe Mode to look for a second file with that name, but it does not appear. The Taskeng.exe malware diverts me from my Firefox homepage to Yahoo which slows Firefox when opening and it slows opening other sites as well. Suggestions?

Bookmark and use this; Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller
- AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Try using the antimalware scanners that FredMcD posted, especially
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)
- Hitman Pro
- Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller
But if they do not find a way to remove it either, it might be better to ask a forum specializing in malware removal as they would be able to provide you with more detailed and personalized instructions for how to remove it.
