firefox 57 error occured while printing
When trying to print from any page in FF 57, I get an error message saying "An error occurred while printing." I have tried the about:config changes and reset print_printer as shown in other posts. I have tried other web pages. I refuse to do a factory-reset on FF (That is NOT a solution when it means you'll lose everything, including bookmarks, etc.) I have tried using Chrome. Chrome prints perfectly fine with no issues. I've noticed a pattern of errors - every time Mozilla releases a major update, something crashes. This time it's the print function. Another time it was something else. When will Mozilla get it right? I am tired of being a guinea pig. With MS, there are not other options. But, with web browsers, there are plenty. And Chrome is looking nice and shiny right about now.
I am using a Windows 7 Home Premium (SP1) desktop computer (can't use newer versions of Windows because of certain legacy software I use).

This may not seem to make sense but you could check what happens when hardware acceleration is disabled in Firefox, as this and some default settings are the only things left that change when using Safe Mode according to its support article. If that does not help, these settings (i.e. all settings deviating from default ones) are worth investigating as a next step.

Try : Dos Prompt Right Click and Run as Administrator then : Copy/Paste to Dos Window SFC /Scannow (SFC <space>/Scannow) command uses local files to fix issues. Reboot & Test...........
If still please :
- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:
- all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
- default theme is used (no persona)
- userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
- default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
- Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
- hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
- plugins are not affected
- preferences are not affected
TEST>>>>>>>>>>If issue is fine then is Extensions/addons or Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See Creating a profile :
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem. Never work with original files.

When I restarted FF in Safe Mode, it prints fine. I have disabled ALL my add-ons (Adaware Ad Block, ForecastFox (fix version), Google Translator For Firefox, Open With Google Chrome, & Share Button For Facebook) and the problem reappears. I do not use themes.
How do I go about disabling individual items that are disabled during Safe Mode, besides the Add-Ons (as I've already disabled them)?

Thanks to everyone who provided suggestions. Special thanks to Tonnes who came through with the info about turning off hardware acceleration. That seems to have fixed the issue. After turning it off, I was able to turn back on my add-ons and still print successfully.
One more question, what long term effects will I notice with accel turned off? Will it slow page rendering, video, graphics, or nothing noticeable?
(Now, maybe Mozilla can work toward permanently fixing this.)
Word prints correctly, but Firefox 57 does not any longer. Turning H/ware acceleration off does not help. There seem to be about 30+ print.printer configs that are modified and shown in Bold. Presumably each corresponds to a printing parameter setting? Turn them all to Default??
Hi byzant, do you get the specific error message "An error occurred while printing" or are you having a different problem?
Regarding the printer preferences, yes, you can reset them to default. See: Fix printing problems in Firefox.
Hi Jscher2000, Yes I get that message. The printer then outputs 1 blank page rather than say the 2 pages I wanted.
Hi byzant, other than what is in the article, you could review past threads for other suggestions:
Since I installed 64-bit Firefox on Windows 7, I get that error when I try to print after resuming from "hibernation" (I leave Firefox running 24x7). So I have to restart Firefox when I want to print again; this didn't happen with 32-bit Firefox. Hopefully someone will figure out the disconnect (i.e., different drivers or something).
