I have the correct email address, password, secure password and server config info - and it's all working fine in 32 bit 52.9.1 Thunderbird on XP.

It appears that TB 91 is "too smart", insisting on using the bellsouth.net part of the address as it "helpfully" works out the configuration and insisting on shutting off manual configuration and using it's "helpful" version if I change the password - or almost anything else.

Where is the "Lock" button that forces TB to retain my settings once I've selected manual config?

After having TB 91 wipe out my manual config four or five times, I might have enough patience to try it once more. Beyond that, I'll be using a browser as this is a laptop that's used primarily to monitor a small solar power system and email is a convenience. Having the same email program on all devices is a minor convenience but it's not worth more than maybe another five minutes of my time.

The settings for all AT&T accounts are shown here. What is stopping you from entering them with Manual config. in the account setup? You can bypass the lookup wizard by adding the account while offline (File/Offline/Work Offline).

Well down the page of AT&T's "How To" is "Unique ID for each device". I created yet another secure password and went back through exactly what I'd done before. That was the answer.
