I am using Firefox 4 (Mac OS X 10.6.7) and cannot listen to m3u audio lists in various web sites, such as in emusic.com. Safari and Opera handle very well m3u.

I checked the settings for m3u in Preferences/Applications and it is listed there that m3u is handled by QuickTime Player 7 (default). Nothing happens when clicking on a link pointing to a m3u. One must use "Save Link as" in order to play it, but then m3u file has to be downloaded, which is not what I want. I have installed QuickTime Plug-in (7.6.6), but it is not possible to choose that as a default handler of m3u.

Please go to the Plugins Check page and update those which are necessary and then try again?

I have tried to update plugins, but unlike extensions, it seems they are not able to be updated.

Anyway, I have checked the status of my plugins by following your link. Plugins are up to date, but I still have this problem.

Do you have the VLC player installed? That can play virtually anything. Download from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html if you haven't and then change the player to that.

I read elsewhere on the forum though that RR requires WMP 9.0 which you can download from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7 But I don't know if it will work with MAC OS.

It seems that you do not understand the problem at hand. I can listen on a m3u list using iTunes, VLC and other players, but I wish to listen on m3u lists as streaming music when I am on sites such as eMusic. For instance, I cannot listen on sample music at eMusic, but must download it first. Thus, it is not possible to listen on streaming music with Firefox. On the other hand, Opera and Safari handle m3u streaming music very well.

Can you listen streaming music or samples at eMusic using Firefox without downloading m3u-list on your local disk?

I don't have a subscription to that site, so I'm afraid there's no way I test it for you.
