over quota problems with hotmail account
I access my hotmail account through Thunderbird, using IMAP. I have lots of emails in lots of different folders, and up until a few days ago never had a problem. Now I just get an over quota message on any folder I click on, and am unable to see the contents of the folder. I have been on my hotmail account via outlook.com, and all appears ok and working correctly. I have deleted emails and folders in an effort to get under quota, but this has not helped. I would like to archive my emails locally on my PC, but am unable to do this as I cannot access the emails due to the over quota.
Any sugesstions.

Thunderbird says that my account is over quota, but the Properties say that I'm only at 63% of quota.

Some providers use limits on:
- Storage - The total size of all messages and folders
- Messages - The number of messages and folders, and
- Transfer - The amount of email received, or sent, in any given period.
You may not be using all the storage capacity, but you may have exceeded a message number limit, or a monthly transfer limit.
Check with your provider to see the limits on your account. You may need to upgrade your account to get larger quotas.
As far as I can determine Windows Live Hotmail (Outlook.com) uses at least two of these quotas For a free account you have only 5GB of space available. You have a daily limit of 100 recipients. A message sent to a group of five people counts as 5 messages.
