I'm used to some settings of the old firefox (56) and I want to know how you can get them back.

1. I do not want to see any icon when I open a new tab. But even when I turned off all the items related to this in about:config, I still see the fox icon there. How to fix it?

2. How to make a new tab open to the right of the current open, but not at the end of the list of tabs?

3. How do I make a new tab open by double-clicking on the current tab? Perhaps there is a code for userChrome.sss. Could you help me with this?

Thank you very much for your help.

When using extensions about:newtab and about:blank both on restarting, they open without a title. Without an extension, they open with a fox icon and a title. And I just wanted that there was a title, but there was no icon. It is a pity that for such a powerful browser as Firefox it is impossible to do.

Who said that was impossible? You chose a different path and never followed up on my earlier comment:

1. I do not want to see any icon when I open a new tab.

A custom style rule in userChrome.css probsbly could hide the icon. Someone will need to dig into the details of how to identify the "New Tab" tabs in a way that works for CSS.

So for example:

/*
    (1) Hide generic Firefox icon on any tab;
    (2) Hide icon on tabs with the label "New Tab"
*/
.tabbrowser-tab .tab-icon-image[src="chrome://branding/content/icon32.png"],
.tabbrowser-tab[label="New Tab"] .tab-icon-image {
  display: none !important;
}

And one more question ... Can I see a cross over an inactive tab when I drag it over with a mouse?

I think those were features added on to Firefox 56, not built-in features. Many users miss Tab Mix Plus...

1. I do not want to see any icon when I open a new tab.

A custom style rule in userChrome.css probsbly could hide the icon. Someone will need to dig into the details of how to identify the "New Tab" tabs in a way that works for CSS.

2. How to make a new tab open to the right of the current open, but not at the end of the list of tabs?

I think you need an add-on to open an unrelated new tab next to the current tab. This works by moving the tab from the end of the bar back to where you want it, which is a bit of a visual hazard; you can decide whether it's tolerable.

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-tabs-next-to-current/

3. How do I make a new tab open by double-clicking on the current tab?

I don't think there's a way to do this. Click behaviors in the user interface can't be overridden by add-ons or CSS.

4. Can I see a cross over an inactive tab when I drag it over with a mouse?

Do you mean a tab that was restored from a previous session but hasn't been loaded yet in the current session? This might be possible with a custom style rule to change the cursor for a tab that is marked "pending" but I've never seen anyone post about it before so that's just a guess.

Or did you mean you want to see an "x" close button when you hover over a narrow background tab?

Thanks, it was really helpful advice. Flash Player started to work faster and some problems with the browser disappeared.

So, for the moment.

1. I installed the extension New Tab Override and redirected the new tab to about: blank. It seems to work fine. But when you restart the browser - open new tabs are incorrectly displayed (see the picture). Why is not clear, maybe I'll try to figure it out myself. 2. I used addon Open Tabs Next To Current. Everything works correctly. 3. I used addon New Tab Beside. Not exactly what I wanted, but you can also live. 4. The question remained unresolved.

I don't know of a connection between New Tab Override and the tabs bar, so that might be a coincidence. ??

For #4, what was it you wanted, exactly?

When I hold the mouse pointer over any inactive tab, there is no cross to close the page. I want it to be.

Hi Zver555, to show the close button when you mouse over a narrow tab, you need to use a custom style rule. You can apply custom style rules to Firefox's toolbar area using a userChrome.css file. If you already have a userChrome.css file, skip to step (3).

Custom Style Rule Method

This takes about 10 minutes, so when you can set aside time and take it slowly and carefully:

(1) Create a chrome folder in your currently active Firefox profile, by following Steps 1-3 on this page:

https://www.userchrome.org/how-create-userchrome-css.html

I have a demo video there if the text needs some visual context.

(2) Set Windows to show all file extensions (Step 4 on the above page)

(3) This is the custom style rule text:

#tabbrowser-tabs > .tabbrowser-tab:not([pinned="true"]):hover > .tab-stack > .tab-content > .tab-close-button {   display: -moz-box !important; }

(A) If you don't have a userChrome.css file yet:

Copy the rule text and paste it into a page on my website which will let you download it as a userChrome.css file:

https://www.userchrome.org/download-userchrome-css.html

After saving the file, move it into the chrome folder.

(B) If you already have a userChrome.css file you can paste the above rule into it.

(4) Exit Firefox and start it up again so Firefox reads and applies the rules.

Success?

Success?

YESS!!!!

I have the last problem left. When I replace the new tab with about:blank, after I restart the browser, all new tabs open with an empty name. I've tried two extensions with the same result ... Maybe some problems with my settings in userchrome.css. I'm not sure what's up.

Do you mean new tabs you create in the current session (Ctrl+t) or tabs restored from your previous session?

Usually when you restore your previous session, even if the page contents don't load until you activate an old tab, the old tab has the document title and site icon from the previous session on the tab.

Old tabs that haven't been activated in the current session are specially marked, I think with a "pending" attribute. Do you have any tab-related style rules relating to pending tabs?

First I create tabs and they are created with a normal name (new tab), but then when I restore them from the previous session - there are no titles there. I completely disabled my userchrome.css, but got exactly the same result (see picture). Now I use the extension "Blank new tab", but with the extension "New Tab Override" was the same. It is very desirable that the names from the tabs will not disappear anywhere .... Thank you for your help.

I don't know what is causing that blank tab. Is it just a normal Firefox session restore or an add-on session manager?

First.

Those blank tabs work normally when you activate them?

You could check with the extension authors on whether the blank tabs are a known issue and whether there is any workaround. I haven't heard of it before.

Does this still happen with all extensions disabled or at least tab related extensions?

These tabs work fine, and when you activate them there appears a title (new tab). But after restarting there is no title again, even with the extensions disabled. Apparently, it's not about extensions at all. This happens with any tab of the form "about: blank". Try to check it out for yourself.
