When I send an email on my phone from one of my email accounts to another with attachments, the attachments only show in the sent folder of the sending account and in the receiving account the email is there and has the text etc but no attachments. EG: Email account 123@abc sends an email with attachments to email account 456@abc. Everything looks as it should in the sent folder of 123@abc but in the inbox of 456@abc the complete email is there minus the attachments. (Both email accounts are set up and used in thunderbird as well as the generic email app on my phone) Any ideas how to fix this issue?

To narrow the problem, I suggest you check the incoming mail online to see if the email has the attachment. If it does not, then the issue is with the phone, not Thunderbird.

Thanks for the reply. I have just tried again today and the attachments show when I log in to the email accounts on the phone (both sent and received) but when I log in on the computer (thunderbird) the attachments show in sent but not received

This is still talking about the phone and Thunderbird.

Email account 123@abc sends an email with attachments to email account 456@abc.

You need to look in the webmail account for the recieving email address - 456@abc. - which you access via a browser on the computer. Do you see the emails you sent on the server in the webmail account and do they have the attachments and can you see them?

What are the attachments ? How large are they? Are they Image files ? What format jpg?

Q: Are both accounts/email addresses set up as IMAP in Thunderbird and also as IMAP on phone ?

You mention sending an email with attachment from account '123@abc' to email account '456@abc'. Q: Do you get the same when sending the other way around from '456@abc' to 123@abc ? Q: Are these two accounts using the same server ?

Q: Do you find you can receive emails with attachments:

  • if sent from another person using an email client on computer.
  • if sent from another person using a mail app on phone

Q: Do you have a general problem receiving any attachment - image, document, pdf, text etc ?

Q: Or is the problem only limited to any attachment sent via your phone ?

Q: What make is your phone ?

Yes, I can see the sent emails and they do have the attachments and the attachments do open. The attachments are usually a photo(s) or screenshot(s), jpeg, various sizes from very small to very large.

Yes, both accounts/email addresses set up as IMAP in Thunderbird and also as IMAP on phone Yes, same problem sending the other way as well. Both accounts are on the same server. I dont (as far as I am aware) have any problems with receiving attachments from anyone else using either a computer or phone. All attachments, word, pdf, jpg etc all seem to be ok. It appears to be only the attachments from my phone for some reason dont show in the inbox on the computer (but do show in the sent folder on the computer) My phone is a vivo 1907. There wasn't any problem with attachments before my domain etc was transferred to a new host. Before the transfer, I used to login to my emails direct through the host but when it was transferred, I found that doing it that way was not at all user friendly, hence Thunderbird, as recommended by several people. The new host (ventraip) has had a look and said that there is nothing on their end that is causing this and that it must have something to do with Thunderbird?????

These images you send from your phone to email address.... Are they photographs you took OR are they images you found on internet websites ?

Are you sure they are 'attachments' and not 'inline' images?

When you select the email to see contents - do you see a broken file image like an outline of a rectangle?

Select received email so it displays in Message Pane Click on 'More' and select 'View Source' At the top will be a load of headers, then the TO Subject, FROM, Date headers

Look for the lines like the following. Copy everything and paste info into this forum reply box. You should see something like this:

For the most part, the pics are things that I have taken a photo of or a screenshot. They are definitely attachments. When I select the email to view, I see everything you would normally see like subject line, main body, from ... etc just no attachment. It looks like any other email that was sent referring to an attachment but the sender forgot to attach the attachment.

X-EsetId: 37303A2945AAEE54617167 it looks like you have ESET Anti-Virus installed and it's scanning incoming emails.

If you have ESET addon toolbar in Thunderbird, please remove it.

Please disable the scanning of incoming emails. Best method to Test:

  • Exit Thunderbird
  • Restart Computer in 'Safe Mode with Networking' - this will make sure no Anti-Virus is messing about with incoming mail. You may need to use an ethernet cable to connect computer/laptop to router/hub.
  • Start Thunderbird
  • Test download of incoming mail with jpg attached.

Hey, Sorry for the late reply. I tried that, no difference.

If you set the following does it display inline - in the Message Pane? 'View' > 'Display attachments inline'

more options

No, 'Display attachments inline' was already selected. I tried deselecting it and no difference so it is selected again.

more options

Check this:

Menu icon > Settings > General Scrollt o bottom and click on 'Config Editor' button In top search type: show_all

look for : mailnews.display.show_all_body_parts_menu If set to 'false': click on the toggle icon shown on right to toggle value to 'True'

REstart Thunderbird.

Send yourself an email with image and report back on results.

It was set to false so I followed your instructions but no difference. Should I change it back to false? I have noticed that if I Cc or Bcc one of my other email addresses that doesnt come through, only the primary addressee gets the email (minus the attachment)
