Links don't work on certain websites, specifically hotmail, which opens but nothing functions from that point.

First of all ensure that you have enabled javascript.
- use Firefox button -> options -> | content| [] enable javascript
- see Settings for web content, pop-ups, fonts, and languages
If that does not help maybe consider
- safe mode (do not make changes on the first window listing, just click continue)
- & basic troubleshooting
