Most (but not all) PDF files downloaded from websites display as blank pages.

I am a Linux system - Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Firefox 3.6.23 Adobe Reader 9.4

To the best of my knowledge, I am at the most current release levels.

I had a similar problem on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo laptop using Ubuntu Linux 11.10, Firefox 7.0.1, Adobe Reader 9.4.2. I was able to force pdf page to load by clicking on refresh several times when blank page displayed. This would open the page but the font was displayed incorrectly – capital letters twice as tall as they should be. Tried downloading the pdf file to the computer, then opening it with Adobe Reader – opened normally but still displayed incorrect font. Resolved as follows: In Firefox, click on Edit – Preferences – Applications – select “PDF Document”. Click up/down arrow on the right side – options are “Use Document Viewer (default)” and “Use Adobe Reader 9.4”. Adobe Reader was already selected. Click on “Use Document Viewer (default)”- close. Click on link to pdf page in the webpage - “Evince” pdf viewer opens and displays the page and fonts correctly. I suspect the original problem is related to the default configuration of Adobe Reader 9.4.2, but as I have no knowledge of how to configure it I will leave well alone for the moment! Hope this is helpful.
