how to remove Yahoo! search engine
I have two yahoo search engines appearing in the search box menu. One is Yahoo and the other is Yahoo! (with the explanation mark). It appears the Yahoo! has hijacked my browser as I am unable to remove it by using the manage search engine option. While it appears to be removed, when I close Firefox I get a message that says a program blocked its removal. Please tell me what I need to do to remove this bogus search engine as it redirects me to what appear to be legit Yahoo pages saying words that I never typed could not be found. Interestingly, the redirects do not occur for all websites I visit.
Thanks, Tony

Use most or all of the listed programs. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may catch it.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

You have these two extensions installed. Amazon Shopping Assistant by Spigot 1.7 (saamazon@mybrowserbar.com) Ebay Shopping Assistant by Spigot 1.7 (saebay@mybrowserbar.com)
http://www.mybrowserbar.com/ Q. What is MyBrowserBar.com? A. MyBrowserBar gives you Yahoo! search results when searching the Web from your Toolbar. To learn more about your Toolbar including Help topics, click the Options menu to the right of the search box.
You might want to uninstall those extensions. How to disable extensions and themes To uninstall an extension don't use Disable, but rather use Remove.
The combination of resetting Firefox and ADW cleaner seems to have removed both Yahoo search engines. Previously I uninstalled any pgm with Yahoo in its name as well as removed all Yahoo-related cookies. At the moment, the problems seems to be solved. THANKS very much!!!!
