Can't update Firefox ESR 52.9.0 (64-bit) on Debian
Hello community!
I have Firefox ESR 52.9.0 installed from the Debian repos (firefox-esr package), however this Firefox won't update automatically, it won't show "up to date" or anything. This Firefox version will show me warnings about invalid SSL certificates for many sites.
On the other hand, if I uninstall Firefox from repositories and download latest version from the official page, all external links (any links that are not in Firefox) will open a separate Firefox empty window, so I have to copy and paste the URLs to actually be able to navigate to them.
Any help would be really appreciated, thanks a lot in advance!

First of fall, sync your browser with Firefox account, so that you don't need to copy your link and easily get you visited pages, after sync. And for update problem you can use software updater and may be it will help you to update your browser to latest version.
Thanks but I'm already synced. That is not the problem. What I mean is if I click a link in another application, i.e. Thunderbird, it will open a new empty window. So to actually visit the URL I have to right-click on it on Thunderbird, copy URL, go to Firefox, open a new tab, and paste the URL.
Sorry I don't know what you mean by "software updater". Do you mean update from Debian repositories? That is already latest version from repos.
52.9.0 IS NOT the latest debian, only the case in a non-backports install, if you have {jessie,stretch}-backports enabled you would have: firefox 60.2.0firefox-esr
About the copy/paste issue look in your General Settings (about:preferences under General) and confirm the following option IS checked) Open links in tabs instead of new windows
Thanks Corey
I added Jessie backports to my sources.list:
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian jessie-backports main
and updated; however there's no update for firefox-esr package or another firefox package to install (besides language packages).
About the copy-paste issue, the option is indeed checked. Note that this only happens when I download Firefox from the official page. Firefox from Debian repository works fine.
