Firefox wants me to open or save a php file. I can't delete request.
I do not know how this started but I keep getting this pop-up. I did click "open" and nothing happened. There is a red dot upper left. Pushing it closes the pop-up until I do something else. It has popped up while I an writing this.

"You have chosen to open as.php which is: PHP file (0 bytes) from: https:ads-us-rd.linksynergy.com
What would you like Firefox to do with this file?
Open with TextEdit Save file
Cancel OK" parrishh said

This started happening to me after updating to 69.0 and only happens on Yahoo's sites.
I contacted them and they told me to quit using Firefox. Please advise.
Hi Matt, sorry to hear about that.
It seems to be happening to more Mac users recently, judging from these new threads:
Firefox doesn't have a general purpose site blocker built-in, so if this can't be tracked down to a poorly working security filter, you could consider using an add-on (as discussed earlier in this thread) or possibly a hosts file entry to block requests to ads-us.rd.linksynergy.com (and/or any other relevant server).
Thank you Matt, Jefferson, Parrish,
I raised this with the Firefox team via Bugzilla to see if they can resolve it. I appreciate your work to help zero in on the issue.

Thank you so much Cor-el!
firefox is downloading php files instead of opening the page. If this is not fixed fast I will have to change browsers. This includes wordpress pages and other php based sites
Hi dsscheibe, can you give an example of what your Firefox downloads when you try to open a PHP page? For example:
https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/jstest.php
Does Firefox actually save the HTML of the page, or an error message, or what?
If you haven't already, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.
If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)
If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
- (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
and OK the restart.
Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).
Any improvement?
If Firefox is offering to download PHP files instead of opening them then this can indicate a problem with the server that doesn't parse the PHP code and sends HTML content. It is also possible that you have an extension or external software that modifies the request headers in a way that the server sends the PHP file instead of of a requested ad page.
