"Paste Without Formatting" is grayed out and word wrap in emails is shortened.
Hello,
Suddenly I am not able to "paste without formatting" (grayed out under edit and shortcut does not work) and my word wrap is now at about half my screen in all emails (new, reply, etc.). I think I have fixed the word wrap issue by changing the mailnews.wraplength (under Options/Advanced/General/Config.) value to zero from 72. I just updated to TB 78.4.0 (32-bit) from 68(?), however, the issue started before I updated. Any help or guidance is much appreciated.
Thanks! Jeff

There does seem to be something odd: paste without formatting is available for HTML messages, but not for plain text. Check if the default format for the non-working account is plain text in Account Settings, Composition & Addressing.
Actually, Paste has the same effect as Paste Without Formatting in plain text messages, which is probably why it's greyed out.
On W10, you can also paste into plain text messages from Windowskey+V.

Does paste without formatting work in safe mode (hold Shift when you launch TB)?
Hi, thank you for your reply. It still doesn't work in safe mode but I did notice that the issue is only with one of my email accounts -- so it must be something with that accounts settings... I'm still at a loss...

Much thanks. I'm not sure how but the box for "Compose messages in HTML format" was unchecked. Checking that box solved the problem.
Been fighting with Thunderbird for months since I switched from Apple's "Mail" and have missed its refined handling of word wrap. Reading this discussion, I too found HTML msg composition allowed the same mature wrap-to-box-size ability that I enjoyed in "Mail's compose and paste use for plain text messages. Does this mean that HTML is the only way I can view text messages, or compose text messages (with wrap) in Thunderbird for mac 78.6.1 ? Why doesn't it work like this very text query box for non HTML messages ?
Apple MBP OSX 10.11.6, Thunderbird 78.6.1
To make plain text composed messages wrap to the window width, set mailnews.wraplength to 0 (zero) in Preferences/General/Indexing/Config. editor.
